Welcome at Medaka Fish Farm
We breed and sell Japanese Rice Fish (Medaka) and our small fish farm is based in the Netherlands, Europe. Oryzias latipes is a true piece of Asian culture this fish that lives in rice fields in nature is also kept widely in Japan in an indoor pond inside the house or in a flower pot or larger pond outside, lots of people refer to them as mini koi fish that’s simple to keep and costs a fraction of a big koi pond and caring for them is very simple!
Japanese Rice fish
Medakas are one of the few fish suitable for (mini) ponds in Europe. These hardy fish can withstand temperatures ranging from -5 to 35 degrees Celsius (when mature). Medakas are essentially self-sufficient and can feed themselves well on algae and insects or normal floating feed. They do not need an active filter or airstone, some lava rock split is enough to function as a cheap but perfect bacteria filter!
Zen “mini koi”
These colorful fish with koi like colors are surface swimmers, are easy to care for and don’t need al lot of room. They are very curious and easy to lure with some food from your hand. They can be easily combined with other types of companion fish and shrimp (even young shrimp are left alone) due to their tiny mouths and the fact that medakas usually inhabit the top layer of water. They do not show aggression or territorial behavior towards other species and therefore are Zen to watch dart around the pond!.
Medaka Imported from Japan
Our strong and pure line Rice Fish has originally been imported from Japan. These Japanese-quality medakas have been selected for color and health. All purebred parent animals from the picture are of the actual fish, and the quality and health are guaranteed for every Medaka Rice Fish or Eggs.
